98% of the World’s Top 500 Companies Have Invested in China

According to the Ministry of Commerce, up to now, about 490 of the world's top 500 companies have invested in China, accounting for 98%.

Vice-minister Qian Keqiang said on the Qingdao Multinationals Summit press conference that many Chinese enterprises have also accelerated their pace in internationalization. The number of Chinese companies listed in the fortune 500 has been increasing continuously from 11 companies in 2001 to 129 companies in 2019.

In the process of China’s reform and opening-up, the multinationals have brought China money, technique and management experience, and also gained huge profit by exploiting Chinses market, achieving win-win result. In the meantime, the multinationals have also played an crucial role in upholding multilateral economical system and building a new international relationship that is just and fair.  

Hao Hongmei, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the ministry, attributed the country's attraction for multinationals to its deep integration into the global industrial chain and value chain as well as the incentives to further open up and liberalize investment and trade.

Last year, China has made great effort to open up further, including reducing the negative list, decreasing tariffs, hosting the first China International Import Expo and passing laws for foreign investment. All of which have made China more attractive to foreign investment. In 2018, the actual-utilized foreign capital of China amounts to $138.3 billion, ranking first among developing countries. According to the World Bank, last year China ranked 32nd in the global business environment.  

“China will provide more investment opportunities for multinational companies and foster an investment environment that is more stable, fair, transparent and predictable.” Qian Keqiang said that China will continue to open up further and promote promote investment and trade liberalization and facilitation. Specifically, we will continue to promote negative list-centered investment liberalization; deregulation- centered investment facilitation; law-centered investment protection; services-centered investment promotion.
