​Jinan, Asian countries seek more open partnership

A forum focusing on cooperation between Jinan and CICA member countries was held in Jinan, East China's Shandong province on April 17, as a part of the 2021 CICA Finance Summit.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multilateral cooperation body that seeks to promote peace, security, and interaction in Asia. It now has 27 member states and 13 observers including eight states and five organizations.

Li Hui, a special representative of the Chinese Government on European-Central Asian Affairs, said local cooperation is an important part of mutual cooperation among countries.

Li proposed upholding the principle of win-win cooperation and encouraged countries to take advantage of their geographical and industrial advantages to join in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and promote sustainable development in the financial industry.

Sun Shutao, mayor of Jinan, delivered a keynote speech and underscored openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation among countries.

"The countries in the region share common interests," Sun said, adding that no country can stay immune in the face of global challenges.

More efforts should be made to promote pragmatic cooperation among CICA member countries and expand cooperation in a wider field and a deeper level.

Envoys from the member countries, including Mahbub Uz Zaman, Bangladeshi ambassador to China, Palitha Kohona, Sri Lankan ambassador to China, and Prak Phannara, commercial counselor of the Embassy of Cambodia in China, also made speeches at the forum and said they hoped to take this meeting as an opportunity to promote cooperation and exchanges with Jinan in economy, culture and other fields.
